3rd Feb, Happy CNY, & Tet! 3325.7km

nearing Ho Chi Minh City, and the legendary traffic...

the road belongs to everybody... and nobody... beware at all time!

the flower market in Bien Hoa. only opens during Tet once every year. turns back at the strike of midnight into a park for recreation after the festive period.

this tree costs 150million dong?! thats like SGD9000+ for this potted tree...
hundreds of ppl on motorbike waiting to get out of the flower market. total chaos cause the only exits are guarded by watchmen collecting payment for parking fees.

haha sorry, i noe i am super sua gu but this is actually my 1st time drinking drip-filtered coffee LOL. btw thats my host (Pratbin) in Bien Hoa, where i will be staying for a few days

and the cost of such aromatic coffee? 15k Dong!

Pratbin's dad offering prayers/offerings to ancestors and deities.

the offerings...

and the food...
Initially, when i saw the offerings placed around the food, i didnt think much of it because we do the same thing back in singapore. but the interesting thing comes when after leaving the food (& offerings) there for quite some time, the offerings are removed and we all sit down to eat the offerings-cum-food.

really diff from singapore cause in singapore, nobody ever eats the food that is offered at altars etc (well at least i know i dun eat them... none of you ever eat them right???) but here in vietnam, they eat it after it has been "presented" to the ancestors. hmmmm, interesting...
they literally sell this everywhere in the run-up to Tet. basically a glutinous rice with pork and mung beans inside
fruits found most frequently during Vietnamese Tet? Watermelon, Pomelo, and coconuts.

typical Tet goodie box to entertain guests

Vietnamese also like to gamble during lunar new year haha. the gal was so noob that she kept losing from the start and everyone prob won, including the Singaporean beginner, except for her haha

popiah with a very thin, but pretty hardy starchy material. the dipping sauce was a pork stew that we had almost everyday. not that i mind, cause the sauce was very delicious =D

Prat's sis, Tilly, brought me out for frog steamboat and some other weird shell...
