18th Jan, day of many firsts. 2632km

woke up from my slumber and to my surprise... about 50-100 students were staring at me as i peeked out from my tent. some kids were doing area cleaning while everybody else was jus standing and wondering wat I was.

i will rmb to wake up early if i ever sleep in a sch again. waking up at 8am when the whole sch arrive is a bad idea...

the place where i slept! with a cute boy as my model =D

i saw a really huge commotion from some distance away while cycling and was wondering wat is was about.

got closer and realised there was a car accident. stopped taking photos when i saw that it was a tragedy and not some amusing thing happening.
the really good thing is that alot of Cambodians actually stopped along the road to help rescue the ppl stuck in the car. i went to help out as well when i reached because the car was in really bad shape. the car was overturned and was almost 4/5 submerged inside the mud. didnt know if anybody was still stuck inside the car but we were all trying our best to extricate the car and to flip it over.

After some time, somebody grabbed a dead dog's body and threw it out and onto the ground behind. sure hoped that there was nobody trapped inside. after a long struggle, we managed to flip the car over and to my horror, there was a man still wearing his seatbelt and looking lifeless in the seat.

pulled him out but his whole body was limp and i knew that the worst had prob happened...

but the really sad/shocking/thought-provoking thing was that as he was laid on the ground, a man (whom was helping to rescue the trapped driver just now) was now standing over the man and removing all the valuables from the dead man. his camera, wallet, riels, etc... didnt know if he was related to the man and wanted to safekeep the items for him but i think the most probable thing was that he was jus looting from the man while he still had the chance, before the police/ambulance arrives. saw some other villagers talking to him and i have no idea wat they were discussing.

if he was really related to the dead man, then fine. but if not, i think its really sad that they are so poor that they even rob from a man whom they were trying so hard to save a few moments ago. and to do it in front of dozens of ppl in broad daylight and not feel ashamed was sth else...

Anyway, enough of bad stuff!
saw some fried birds along the street. hadnt had chickens/bird for some time so decided to try some.

a little lime all over the bird.

the legs were pretty crispy, but the beak was super hard. only ate a little. the bird's head was super hard and couldnt manage to bite it. the neck tasted like crap as well haha. overall, interesting dish, but only the legs and body were nice =D

a big pot of ice-cream with coconut shreds, some red beans and yellowish stuff that i couldnt figure out wat it was.

500riels for this great cooling day-time snack

saw a gal making waffles over charcoal, old sch style. they have it almost everywhere in cambodia and usually in the morning. i usually eat it with my peanut butter spread or my strawberry jam =P

a milky, creamy dessert with bananas and sago seeds. available in ALL dessert shops.

veggies wrapped in a translucent, paper-thin wrapper.

the sauce was nice but didnt really like the veggie popiah though.

hmmm i wonder wat could be hiding inside this beautiful egg...

is this the legendary Balut, half-egg, half-duckling?

i think this was the feet? had 2 very thin white pieces of stuff which i think should be the feet.

the lime, salt, chilli condiment that you dip the egg into.

looks like the half-developed brain to me. not very sure though...

i think this is the head and beak!

the soup/blood/sticky stuff/duck juice was actually pretty yummy. like chicken soup with more sediments inside.

Siem Reap!
